REVIEW of Zones of Coherence
"...Rosenboom is a phenomenon. His speed and zinging high notes are amazing. He is a cool customer onstage, but what comes out of the mouthpiece is red hot..."From Mark Swed of the the Los Angeles Times, October 2007
REVIEW of Evolution
"...Evolution captures all the gravity of '70s prog rock with a dramatic flair of Freddy Mercury-proportions...Seriously, Rosenboom goes for the jugular both rhythmically and melodically, running through time signatures like a box of Kleenex at an AA meeting..."From the New Music Box website, 2006

Rosenboom’s Rock’n Trumpet

“Imagine a blend of heavy metal and free improvised jazz and ‘Eastern’ sounding melodies and harmonies. It’s kind of hard to describe exactly,” Daniel Rosenboom, 23, said.
Rosenboom, a classical musician and trumpet virtuoso from Valencia, is talking about his new local band, PLOTZ! an electro-acoustic quartet that performs Balkan traditional dance music in a variety of styles, ranging from heavy metal to quiet acoustic folk.
“So much of rock these days is cookie-cutter music that requires virtually no musical training or intelligence to play,” Rosenboom said. “What I want to do is bring the intelligence and consideration found in classical music to the rock genre.”
And if anyone is well-trained enough to transcend and integrate musical genres, it’s Rosenboom.
A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Rosenboom has traveled and performed with orchestras and solo throughout the nation and the globe.
“The band got together in late February of this year and have been playing together and recording ever since,” Rosenboom said. “What’s interesting about this band is how it fits into my musical development. I originally was a classical musician. I went to college as a classical musician and graduated with a classical degree.”
Rosenboom began playing the piano at the age of four, however, the trumpet became his “instrument of choice by default,” because he used his father’s old trumpet when he joined the school orchestra in 4th grade.
“It made sense,” Rosenboom said. “We didn’t have to spend any more money.”
“One of the great joys in life for me has been traveling as a musician and communicating with people from other cultures and backgrounds on an extrasensory level,” Rosenboom said. “Music makes me happy because it allows me to express myself, my ideas, my soul in a much more poignant form than words, music speaks to something beyond consciousness, something deep rooted in our inner beings and in that way it is truly a universal language.”
Additionally, Rosenboom teaches at the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.
Rosenboom is also pursuing graduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, studying with Jens Lindemann — and at CalArts, studying with Edward Carroll.
“I love classical music. The amount of care given to every element is often unparalleled in art. I love playing classical music. I love a lot of the people I’ve met playing classical music. I will still play classical music. However, I find now that I can connect with people my own age through other mediums in a more meaningful way if I give them intelligent, well thought out rock compositions,” Rosenboom said.
This fall Rosenboom will release his debut solo CD featuring world-premiere recordings of new pieces which he has commissioned and written. PLOTZ! will also release their first CD shortly.
“My goals as a musician change often, however one thing remains totally constant, I want to perform, listen to, and teach music for the rest of my life. I find that I speak the musical language almost better than I speak the English language, and am better at expressing my soul through my instrument than my words. Therefore, I absolutely need music in my life and will always need it,” Rosenboom said. “But really, the most realistic thing to say is that if I can support myself financially through music, I will be a success.”
